UNESCO world heritage site

Background

Located between the borders of Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, and Guinea, Mount Nimba is home to the most diverse biogeographic region in the entire African continent, and when I was given the task to create a brand identity for the UNESCO site I sought to bring light to that fact.

The lush green mountains smoothly transition to arid desert plains, with various subregions that accommodate to over 2,800 endemic species. The site is vulnerable to environmental degradation as a result of heavy mining and civil warfare, however, and many of these endemic species are in danger.

Informational Brochure

Throughout the design process I found myself captivated by the beauty of the region, but moreover I felt it necessary to highlight the abundance of wildlife that can only be found in Mount Nimba’s range. The vibrancy of the land and all the creatures that inhabit it encouraged a striking and diversified color scheme as I created a literal glyph logo. For the brochure, I wanted to create an exciting and surreal atmosphere around Mount Nimba, combining photo-collage with my own illustrative renderings in the hopes that an audience would feel compelled to see the sights and species for themselves.
